Adventures in Kimono Jackets!

I love a dramatic chiffon jacket/kimono/duster. Add fringe and my smile just gets bigger.

My friend Megan loaned me a beautiful kimono jacket from Asos. I love it! It’s absolutely the most fun to wear! Especially when the fringe gets caught on EVERYTHING. You might remember that I have borrowed it before…

I was getting dressed this am and just couldn’t go to work in a boring black dress. I needed more flair.

So I started with this…..

And ended up like this!

I got a lot of super positive feedback! Paige said I looked like “Mae West.” I can’t be sure but I think she almost definitely meant as it a compliment. Day 10,002 of refusing to dress like a stuffy lawyer = mission accomplished!

Be brave. Try kimono jacks. They can be such fun! Besides everyone’s inner hippy needs a chance to be let loose every now and then!

Adventures in Golden Globe Fashion

I try to stay positive when I write posts after awards shows. Who am I to be tearing down other people’s work?! And what’s more I love awards shows. I live for the season! For me, it’s the ultimate fantasy — dresses galore, stylists working hard, and stars shining bright. But the dresses seriously did not deliver last night and the stylists… I dream of being one and so I will rein in my impulse to be super harsh seemed to be phoning it in. So many low buns and messy down hair… so many ill-fit gowns… such boring makeup. Very few women looked really put together and sharp.

For me, the cast of Into the Woods was by far the best dressed. It does help that they have the benefit of some serious red carpet experience between them. Meryl Streep is obviously no stranger but Emily Blunt and even Anna Kendrick have at least a couple of years of serious red carpet experience and it showed. Even the guys in their crew looked sharp — a classic tux never disappoints for either John Krasinski or James Corden.

I also really enjoyed Anna Faris’s look — her hair was actually styled her makeup lovely. I really felt like more than just her dress sparkled. Her man-ccessorie didn’t hurt either! 🙂 Her co-star Allison Janney pulled off one of the better red looks of the night.

As always the sparkle was in… I enjoyed these ladies in their varying shades of grey sparkle. But I can’t really say I died for any of their looks.

Kate Beckinsale is probably my favorite in this group because she looks the most polished and has the most cohesive look. I really like Julianne Moore’s dress for example but it looks like she just brushed her hair and called it a day — the same for Dakota Johnson.

The truth is people who I think are generally dependable didn’t really deliver last night. But then there were people who just completely missed the boat.

I divide them into three categories… (I will try to be gentle.)

1. Ill-fit

2. Weird, unattractive dress

3. Wrong decade (trying too hard)

The Golden Globes telecast itself was awesome! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler owned the room. And, for once, the speeches weren’t boring or uncomfortable. Truthfully, content-wise it was one of the best Globes ever. Nevertheless, the style was not exactly awe-inspiring. It’s only the beginning of the season so it is my hope that the stars and their stylists will figure out their mistakes and improve as the season continues!

Adventures in Winter Coats!

OMG! It suddenly got so cold here. I know that the rest of the country has been dealing with crazy cold for month but here in Florida it’s been downright hot!!!! I also have been so busy with work that I haven’t had the time or energy to get into blogging like I should. So here we are almost 10 days into 2015 and this is one of my first blogs!

So let’s talk coats. I love the idea of coats. I love seeing cool pattern coats or fun colors but the truth is when you don’t really need a coat that much it seems silly to splurge on a fancy coat. So I have never really gone crazy. This year, I managed to hit a sweet sale at Old Navy and got this gem for a mere $35!

And you know I love the COBALT!
Now that it’s officially coat time all over the country — it’s time to check out wild coat game around the interweb and get inspired!

Adventures in New Year’s Eve Shenanigans!

Happy New Year! It’s 2015 now… it’s going to be great!

IMG_3342

My friend Maria and I couldn’t figure out what to do for NYE. Every year, it’s a bit of a disappointment. It’s kind of like the ultimate birthday — you put so much anticipation into it and it can never live up to it!

So this year, we decided to have a pj party and making vision boards for 2015. We managed to convince my brother to join and then we decided to watch old Star Trek episodes!

 IMG_3333 (1)

It ended up being maybe the best NYE ever. We ordered pizza and got champagne.

Of course, I wore my new jammie onesie to the pizza place. It was a big hit!

Maria’s mom even got into the fun! Check out these fun jammies!

Then we sat down to making vision boards…

All in all, it was a blast! We kept it chill and got our head’s on straight for 2015. Here we come!

2015 Resolutions

il_fullxfull.685143074_rfbq

I love New Year’s. I am an old sap but I love the idea of the year starting fresh. I have never been a big one for resolutions and my reasons are twofold — first, I am not wild about the fact that more often than not, they are all about things you can’t do (i.e. eat carbs, shop (can’t stop/won’t stop)) and secondly, I never follow through so I set myself up for disappointment.

Nevertheless, as 2014 draws to a close and I look back at the year. I do think there are things I would like to do better in 2015. That’s why this year my resolutions are my “do better list.”

In 2015, I plan to do better with:

1. Being present with my friends and family. I need to unplug and listen and really make an effort to be there for them.

2. Healthy living. It’s time. I am hitting 30 and if I have a shot at getting into the swing of healthy living — it’s now or never.

3. Soul-searching for my calling. I have come to realize in the last couple of months that I am not in love with being a lawyer and I’d like to find a calling I can be in love with and pursue it.

4. SAVING. My great idea to move in with my roomie has been great — my money stress was almost completely eliminated but I haven’t done much saving but all that is going to change in 2015.

5. Loving myself. We are always are toughest critics. I struggle constantly with feeling like I am enough and opening myself up to new relationships. I want to be as confident and free inside as I project outside.

That’s not too much, right?

It’s 2015 today. It’s a new day, a new year, and it’s going to be great.

I wish you a happy a New Year filled with glitter, polka dots, loved ones, and JOY!
