It’s my birthday and I wear what I want.

At least that’s how I feel in the time surrounding my birthday. I love celebrating other people’s birthdays and, of course, I love receiving gifts but I have to confess that I do not love being the center of attention. It makes me pretty uncomfortable.

One of my favorite things to think about is ALWAYS my birthday outfit. I think it should always have a touch of whimsy that makes it feel special. For example, last year I rocked this dress from Forever 21 with lipsticks all over it. I felt special in it. For some of my friends, I have started the tradition of buying them outfits for their birthday to wear on their birthday. I love the process of thinking about what people would like and what looks good and then putting those together (in an affordable way).

Here’s my lipstick look re-visited —

As my birthday quickly approaches I have been thinking of a couple of different looks to rock on this my 29th birthday. Don’t worry faithful followers, there’s still an entire year to complete my 30 before 30 list. More posts to come….

In the meantime, here are some ideas I have been floating regarding my birthday outfit:

Maybe with black tights — like an updated material girl look.

What about a sleek black and white dress doing what color blocking was meant to do…

I could always return to my dear friend, cobalt. I think you all know how I feel about cobalt!

How about some embroidery and lace… It’s a blast!

My friend Jess surprised me with a fun present alternative… shopping together to buy my birthday outfit. We picked out this sweet skater dress from Old Navy that includes those stripes I’ve been loving. We found these incredible purple with a hint of neon Ivanka Trump heels that are to die for! I like the purple with the stripes since my birthstone is amethyst. It seems fitting to rock purple for birthday events. I paired the shoes with Kate Spade purple studs and my new purple eye shadow — and I loved how it turned out. What do you think?
